Dürer – Ein Film von Marie Noëlle
Dürer
He was a pop star of his time: Albrecht Dürer is one of the most important artists of the Renaissance. An obsessive, hedonist, visionary, networker and self-promoter, an eternal doubter and admonisher, a lover and seeker, in short: a modern man, far ahead of his time. Director Marie Noëlle (“Marie Curie”, “Ludwig II”) has staged a high-quality, gripping docudrama that alternates between fiction and reality of Albrecht Dürer (Mues) and his wife Agnes (Herzsprung).
With his paintings, copperplate engravings and woodcuts, Albrecht Dürer is one of the most important artists of the Renaissance. An obsessive, hedonist, visionary, networker and self-promoter, an eternal doubter and admonisher, a lover and seeker, in short: a modern man who was far ahead of his time. In a sensitive blend of fiction and documentary, the film Dürer, with a cast of top-class actors, tells of the life of the eccentric artist and of the stories behind his famous works.
Dürer’s work and his person (1471-1528) are still moving today — the hare, the folded hands, the apocalypse, the rosary feast and his sometimes extraordinarily intimate self-portraits. When you get right down to it, Albrecht Dürer probably invented the selfie. Its radiance seems unbroken even 500 years after his death.
