Muenter & Kandinsky
An art house project of a special kind: It shows the years Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky spent together, an extraordinary pair of artists and passionate lovers. Both co-founders of the Blaue Reiter, one of the most famous loose groups of artists of Classical Modernism. The feature film is produced by Berlin-based CCC, Munich-based MZ-Film, Swiss Pamy Mediaproductions and us, Gretchenfilm.
While Kandinsky enjoys fame, admiration, artistic and financial recognition, life at his side is anything but easy for Gabriele Münter. The relationship becomes increasingly complicated, tiring and above all toxic.
Filming took place in Berlin and Bavaria and was successfully completed in June 2023. We are proud that “Münter & Kandinsky” has become a visual and emotional masterpiece through the combination of talented actors, a creative film crew and the picturesque backdrops of our filming locations.
The top-class cast with Vanessa Loibl, Vladimir Burlakov, Felix Klare, Monika Gossmann, Marianne Sägebrecht and others revive the Schwabing bohemian scene at the beginning of the 20th century. The feature film about the destructive love between the great painter and the Russian artist is produced by Berlin-based CCC Cinema und Television, Munich-based MZ-Film, Swiss Pamy Mediaproductions and us, Gretchenfilm. Various art foundations also support the production. Filming will took place in Berlin and Bavaria until 6 June 2023.
Camino Filmverleih is expected to release the lavish co-production in spring 2024. The Playmaker Munich is responsible for world distribution.
